It occurred to me in the past few days that I do not read the bible nearly often enough. It's an easy thing to say, it really is, and I'll say it again; I do not read the bible nearly often enough.
Let me go back to some of the origins of these thoughts. In my Intro to Literature class I have to answer questions pertaining to an assigned section of a work of literature. If I don't take the time to read the section then I won't do well in answering the questions, and my grade will begin to refle…

These are two different portraits that I've done of myself.
To be honest, there is no philosophical or 'deeper' meaning to either of them.
Both are done in the medium which I love best; pen!

"Come" said the wind to the trees one day. Come o'er the meadows and we will play. Put on your dresses scarlet and gold. For Summer is gone and the days grow cold.
~Children's song from the 1880's
Brrrr... its coming.

I started at my first art therapy internship site last week. I am doing 10 hours a week at The Center for Women in Transition in Holland. It is a facility that offers counseling, support, temporary shelter, and other resources to woman and children suffering from domestic violence or sexual assault. I feel very lucky to have been given the opportunity to work there and they have a wonderful and caring staff. The staff is very excited to have the opportunity to offer art therapy to their clients,…

I have been very busy that last week trying to get everything done around my house before I take off to go out of town to Terre Haute, Indiana where the college that I am taking my Masters in Art Therapy degree is located. I have to go down there 4 days at the beginning of every semester and for a whole week in the beginning of July for residencies on campus. I noticed that when I am flying madly around here trying to get things done and out of the way before I go, that it is easy to loose site…

At times we all wonder what is the point of suffering. Why do I and why do those I love have to hurt are valid questions. I have reflected on Hebrews 12:1-13 recently and I think it offers help for those who hurt. If you need comfort in the middle of some painful life event, or if you’d like to be better prepared to handle crisis, I’d invite you to reflect on those verses. Here is what I have learned from them.
First, God does not send us suffering. It is not some harsh punishment for some sin…

I finally have my page set up for the second time and soon my original Diane M. McKnight page will be gone. This time around I have chosen to add a few other things to my page that are a little more personal. I have put a few photos of one of my favorite locations for rejuvenation of the spirit, Glen Arbor, Michigan. My other personal favorite is Oval Beach, in Saugatuck, Michigan. I find both locations are very spiritual for me. I can listen to the waves and pray, read, and just generally be wi…

This is pretty much the outline I used to testify in my church:
I’d like to tell you about some events in my life which, according to some people, qualify as “God Moments”. I might ramble, but eventually we’ll get there and you’ll get the over-all picture! Because some of you haven’t known me as long as others, let’s start with a brief description of my:
1. Musical
background:
a. 9 y/o first church solo
b. pump organ in barn (made up “Indian Songs”!)
c. piano lessons: STOP practicing

I have a new found sense of honesty with my work lately. I had a script which not so long ago told me to do things in a way that made sense in my work. I found my work no longer was for me, but for others. It lacked being genuinely a piece of work from my very being. This fact saddened me. I was creating in light of buyers. Though I have sold very little, I found that small piece of the pie governed my thought process of creating. So in the end I let go. This felt good, freeing even. I remembere…
